A New Year, A New Approach: Embracing Boldness and Growth

Hey there, everyone! Happy 1st of January.

I thought, "Why not start the year with a bang?" So, here we are, popping a quick blog out to kick off the New Year!

Ever since a friend introduced me to the Mamamia Out Loud podcast - oh, about 6 years ago now - I've adopted their new year tradition. Each year, I like to identify a word for the year. It's something that will focus and guide me for the year ahead, a kind of personal mantra if you will.

But this year, I'm shaking things up a bit. I'm choosing not one, but two words. Yeah, I know, bold right? And that's exactly it!

My first word of the year is.....

For me, being bold is about putting myself out there, being true to who I am and feeling good about it. It's about stepping out of my comfort zone, taking risks, and embracing the unknown and daring to make a difference. It's about living life in full colour and turning the volume up!

As occupational therapists, we embody boldness in our daily work. We are bold when we advocate for our clients, when we push boundaries to ensure they receive the best care, and when we innovate new strategies to improve their quality of life.

Being bold means not being afraid to question the status quo if it doesn't serve our clients. It means standing up for what we believe in, even if it's not the popular opinion. It means taking risks, trying new things, and learning from our failures. I am taking being bold into my professional and personal life!

My second word for the year is......

Growth is about so much more than just getting bigger or expanding. It's about my business, myself, my family, and life. It's about gaining knowledge and experiences, and truly living life to the full. It's about nurturing, evolving, and flourishing in all aspects of life.

So, there you have it, my two words for the year: Bold and Growth. What about you? What word would you choose to guide you through the year? Or are you like me, feeling a bit rebellious and going for a couple this year? Let's make this year one to remember!

If your words are the same. Let's be bold in our actions, bold in our decisions, and bold in our commitment to our clients. Let's continue to push boundaries, to innovate, and to advocate for those we serve. Here's to a year of boldness in occupational therapy! Lets we strive to evolve, learn and expand our horizons in occupational therapy. Growth isn't just about personal development, it's about nurturing our clients' potential and fostering an environment where everyone can flourish.

Here's to 2023 a year of progress and endless possibilities!
