Hello, my fellow therapists! Today, I want to share a little gem with you that I've been using with my clients - the "Who, What, Where, When, Why and How" Structure Sheet.
This is a compensatory strategy that acts as a friendly guide, helping my clients navigate the maze of information they encounter daily, especially those who have experienced a brain injury or have difficulties managing their emotions and mental health.
Now, let's get real for a moment. Not all my clients have stuck with it. Some have embraced it wholeheartedly and continue to use it, while others have gradually let it go. But here's the interesting part - not all those who've drifted away from the sheet haven't done so because it wasn't helpful. On the contrary, they've practised using it so much that they no longer need the visual prompts to guide them. They've internalised the process, and that's a win in my book!
This strategy has proven successful in various settings, including workplaces and volunteer environments, and has been particularly effective in extracting key information from lengthy emails. While it may not be a one-size-fits-all solution, it could potentially be a game-changer for some of your clients.
So, why not give it a whirl? Try it out with your clients and see how it works for them. And hey, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Drop me a comment and let me know how it goes. Remember, we're all in this together, learning, growing, and finding new ways to support our clients.
